In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to expect everything quickly. So when people begin the journey of creating bespoke jewellery, one of the most common questions is: Why does it take so long?
At Blair and Sheridan, the answer comes down to something important—true craftsmanship. When jewellery is designed and made specifically for one person, every stage takes care, skill, and attention to detail.
Bespoke jewellery is created entirely from scratch for an individual customer. Unlike ready-made pieces, there isn’t a pre-existing design or setting waiting to be used. The process begins with an idea, a conversation, and a design developed specifically for you – and more importantly, in collaboration with you.
This journey allows every detail to be considered, from the overall style and feel to the diamond/gemstone specifications and finishing touches. The result is a piece that is unique to you and entirely personal.
The first stage of bespoke jewellery is the design concept – this comes to life during a one to one consultation where we explore ideas, styles, budget and personal touches or meaningful inclusions you would like to be taken into consideration in your ring or jewellery.
During this part of the process, we typically explore:
Taking the time at this stage is an investment in the finished piece, ensuring it is not only beautiful but also thoughtfully constructed, durable, and comfortable to wear for many years to come.

Blair and Sheridan offer in-house 3D printing of your ring design to let you see exactly how your finished design will look, feel and fit
A key part of many bespoke pieces—especially bespoke engagement rings—is selecting the right gemstone.
Even stones of the same cut or colour can look remarkably different. Finding the right one involves carefully considering tone, cut, how the stone sits within the design, and its individual character. At Blair and Sheridan, we place great importance on this part of the journey. Rather than rushing the decision, we often take the time to source and present a selection of exceptional stones, sometimes across more than one appointment, so you can see how each option feels in person. This approach allows us to go the extra mile to find a gemstone that truly complements both the design and the person who will wear it.
Once the design and materials are finalised, the making process begins. This is where traditional jewellery craftsmanship plays a major role. At Blair and Sheridan we design and make your ring or jewellery entirely in-house which gives us autonomy on each step and oversee individual processes.
Choosing bespoke jewellery means investing in something that is designed specifically for you. It allows for a level of detail, craftsmanship, and individuality that simply isn’t possible with mass-produced pieces.
Over time, many bespoke pieces become meaningful keepsakes or family heirlooms—something created with intention rather than haste.
Truly bespoke jewellery takes time because it is made with care, expertise, and purpose. From the first design conversation to the final polish, each stage plays an important role in creating a piece that will last for years to come.
At Blair and Sheridan, we believe the time invested in making jewellery properly is what makes it truly special.
